Establishment of Training Center on Renewable Energy through the Sri Lanka-German Technical Training Institute

 Taking into consideration the high training requirements in the renewable training sector in Sri Lanka, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Sri Lanka-German Technical Training Institute and the Sri Lanka Renewable Authority on 10-02-2025 to implement a project for the construction of a new training center on renewable energy. It has been planned to construct the aforementioned training center as an affiliated branch of the Sri Lanka-German Technical Training Institute on a portion of 3.11 acres of land in the Mayurapura Division of the Walawa Zone owned by the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority. Since it is proposed to establish the said training center close to the Kiriebbanwewa Solar Power Plant and the Hambantota Training Center of the Sri Lanka Renewable Energy Authority, the students will have the opportunity to receive direct practical training. The main objective of the said project is to jointly implement a training hub on renewable energy through the proposed training center and other relevant institutions. It is expected that the training hub will provide subject knowledge and practical training covering energy efficiency and electronic and mechanical engineering relevant to the energy fields, such as solar, wind, hydroelectricity, and biomass, and will enable the creation of skilled professional technicians. Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the resolution submitted by the Hon. Prime Minister in her capacity as the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education to implement the construction of the aforementioned training center on renewable energy by utilizing local funds under the estimated cost of Rs. 398 million
