It is generally very difficult to excel in chemical engineering without a strong foundation in math. Math is a fundamental tool used in chemical engineering, and a strong understanding of math is essential for analyzing and solving problems that arise in the field. Many chemical engineering courses, such as thermodynamics and transport phenomena, rely heavily on math and require a high level of mathematical proficiency. Additionally, chemical engineering involves the use of complex equations and mathematical models to design processes and equipment, analyze data, and make predictions about chemical reactions and other processes. Without a strong foundation in math, it would be difficult for a student to understand and apply these concepts and techniques effectively.
That being said, it is possible for a student who is not particularly strong in math to still succeed in chemical engineering, but they may need to put in extra effort to learn and master the math concepts and techniques that are required for the coursework. It may also be helpful for such a student to seek out additional support, such as tutoring or study groups, to help them understand and apply the math concepts covered in their coursework.
