What is XRD JCPDS or ICDD?
The
JCPDS (Joint Committee on Powder Diffraction Standards) is the expired
name of present XRD ICDD (International Centre for Diffraction Data)
which is the database of standard powder diffraction patterns of wide spectrum of
materials. These patterns can be experimentally obtained using a XRD device or theoretically
derived ones based on crystal structure and Bragg's law. This database is much
sought after by technicians, scientists and engineers to verify or identify materials
using XRD data obtained during analysis.
Is ICDD pdf files are available for free?
ICDD is
a non-profitable institute, however, it does not mean it is free. A standard
price tag is attached so if you are a frequent and commercial user of ICDD, you
must better suitable package from their online shop at: http://icdd.mybigcommerce.com/
However, prices are too high, if you
looking for one of two samples for your research purpose, you may happy to see free
options.
#1. CSD-C
(CSD-Community version)
The Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) is a highly curated
and comprehensive resource where you can access a large Powder Diffraction Standards
for free. Now their total volume consists with more than 1 million data from different
materials.
#2: COD - Crystallography Open
Database
Developed by Nick Day of
University of Cambridge under supervision of Dr. Peter Murray-Rust, COD is one
of top source for powder Powder Diffraction Standards. It is
consist of half million collection of crystal structures of organic, inorganic,
metal-organics compounds and minerals, excluding biopolymers.

#3: American
Mineralogist – CDS
They
provide quite old interface to a crystal structure database that includes every
structure published in the American Mineralogist journals. Free of
charge and this is also provide a wide spectrum of Powder Diffraction Standards with a reference to the original
research paper.
