One of my blog reader had put a comment on my site claiming that engineers are money oriented people. But we are also have sense on humanity and we are doing our best to server our nation. This is quite old social service done by our department, but this will show how chemical engineers helped our nation in the most tragic situation in Sri Lankan history, Tsunami.......
Our department worked as a group to distribute detergents & disinfections in to affected areas as soon as possible.

I think we are all money oriented to some degree but if we make it our primary focus then we are bound to fail even before we begin.
It is like the saying; ‘Necessity is the mother of all inventions’.
Money comes afterwards.

well thats just the ceb...
but it has nothing to do with the engineering profession or any other profession... no profession would advise you to be corrupt...
so the profession has nothing to do with it...
but there are corrupt engineers just like there are corrupt lawyers, doctors, etc...

CEB stands for Ceylon Electricity board. We do not any relation with them. We are chemical & process engineers.
Sorry still I did not put a article on Methanol production. I have very big involments in our departmental functions. Sorry but I will soon to add.
Money and humanity is not opposite things. Money is the building block of everything in an organized society. Just because Engineers are money oriented (or anyone with a wife in that case) that do not mean they are corrupted (like sheshal suggested). Or just because you guys help out in the tsunami, it does not mean engineers are not money oriented too. Helping in the tsunami have nothing to do with engineering. It is not unique to engineers.
If I further clarify my comment last time:
Just like the kidney need blood from the heart for it to work, just like vanes drive blood to all the organs in the body, money need to be flown in to every section of the society. Just because Eyeballs need lot of blood for it to work, we don’t call it bloody and corrupted. Same way engineers need money too for them to function. If humanity makes you functions, Sri Lankan engineers should have invented cellarphones, cars, rockets and trucks, and Maniok fuel already. It is not you as a person; it is engineering as an industry needs lot of money for it to work. That is why no engineers work in Shell Gas instead Salvation Army.
Without money, there is no humanity in an organized society. (or no wife in a family)
To echo the achcharu tagger, who isn't? The drive for success and money is important, especially in the engineering field...drive innovation and hopefully drag SL into the 21st Century...
corrupt buggers on the other hand should be shot!
