Today when I surf internet I came across with some new concept "Solar Power Towers". This Solar power towers consist of a large field of sun-tracking mirrors, called heliostats, which focus to a receiver on top of a centrally located tower. The enormous amount of energy, coming out of the sun rays, are concentrated at one point (the tower in the middle), produces temperatures of approx. 550°C to 1500°C. The gained thermal energy can be used for heating water or malt salt.
If we use water we can get steam directly or if we use salt we can use them indirectly to generate steam, which is used to move the turbine-generator. This way thermal energy is converted into electricity.

Although there are more advantage in this method the initial cost is very high. Otherwise very good system for country like Sri Lanka. We can implement such a system in Hambanthota, Polonnaruwa where high amount of sunshine can be expected.
