HMF – Hydroxy methyl furfural

This is an intermediate chemical which shows tremendous potential for a basic chemical which can converted to fuels and some fine chemicals. Becouase of the ability to derive Hydroxy methyl  furfural from renewable cellulosic resources; this chemical is becoming a very important in bio refinery concept.
Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), is also called as 5-(Hydroxymethyl)furfural and its IUPAC name is 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-furaldehyde. This colourless solid is highly water-soluble which containing both aldehyde and alcohol functional groups.
