AquaSim software and tutorials

I downloaded AquaSim demo version and some of tutorials as it is a recommended and used modeling package for our M. Sc course. The

AQUASIM has been designed to provide a more universal identification and simulation tool for a class of aquatic systems important in the

environmental sciences. An additional important program design criterion was user-friendliness, which was achieved not only by providing a graphical

user interface, but also by utilizing a communication "language" familiar to environmental scientists. AQUASIM is extremely exible in allowing the user

to specify transformation processes, and, in addition to perform simulations for the user-specied model, it provides elementary methods for parameter

identiability analysis, for parameter estimation and for uncertainty analysis.


AQUASIM was developed in the years 1991-1994 in the Computer and Systems Sciences department of the Swiss Federal Institute for Environmental Science

and Technology (EAWAG), CH-8600 Dubendorf, Switzerland, and it is maintained and extended since then. The program was designed mainly for internal use in research and

teaching, but is also available to the public.

What is Carbon Foot Print?

The definition of the Carbon Foot Print can be as follows.

‘‘The total set of greenhouse gas emissions caused directly and indirectly by an [individual, event, organisation, product] expressed as CO2e.’’ 1

The carbon foot print of above parties encompasses three ways of carbon emissions.

1. Direct emissions that result from activities such as combustion of fuels, emission of gases during operation, production and manufacture, and running of a vehicle fleet

2. Emissions from electricity usage

3. Indirect emissions from products and services that the organization does not directly control (Emmision from indirect activities of the main process such as preparation and transport of the raw materials)

Transport Phenomena, 2nd Edition by by R. Byron Bird (Author), Warren E. Stewart (Author), Edwin N. Lightfoot (Author)

This is the recommended text for Transport phenomena subject on my Sustainable Process Development Master of Science degree programme. Today I started to study this book as our lecture Dr. Shantha Amarasinghe is taking this book as a model. Because of R. Byron Bird's (Author), Warren E. Stewart's (Author) and Edwin N. Lightfoot's (Author) deep analysing and great approch this book has become a standard book in trasport phenomena and there way of looking into transport phenomena is called a "BSL" method.
