Going for Alternative Solutions

Fossil fuel era is going to finish and new empire is coming to rule. It is cereal age. With the superb "Biorefinery" tech we can go for better solution for fuel crisis protecting sustainability of every aspect of the society. With ordinary refinery culture oil rig owners, refinery investors, distributors and such as wealthy society is being protecting and they enjoy our demand well. But with the biorefinery approach farmers will play the role of oil rig owners, biorefinery owners (who invest behalf of the mother nature rather than thinking their own profit) will play ordinary refinery owners role. This is the time to change.

Play, learn and donate rice

From a blog of a medical college student, I found a good online game which help to increase the vocabulary of English and help to UN food programme by donating rice. Try this wonderful game.

This will be a mutual beneficial program. It will increase your vocabulary and help poor people to fight with poverty.

Oil price is going down

Oil price will be reduced by this December because gov. is going to give up 15% tax on oil and reduce it down-to 5%. I found this on newspaper which entitled the discussion with LIOC director board members. It will be a good news for ordinary people of the society but it is not a good idea for people who have a view on sustainable tomorrow. With this tax reduction huge money flow will stop which draw towards gov. funds. Another reason is reduction of oil price will not reduce any commodity prices. Because in Sri Lanka normally when price go up once there will not be a price reduction of goods and services. With reduction of 10% tax will decrease oil prices from 6 or 7 rupees. Will this help to develop our nation.

I think government must do is searching opportunities of alternative fuels such as ethanol, biodiesel, fuel cells, dendro, solar, ... etc. With the above decision governement will loose huge amount of money. I think that funds must flow towards R&Ds on renewable and bio based fuel systems. We are at the end of the fossil fuel regime, we are steping towards bio economy. Do not take bio based economy as Farmers Age which was there in the world before thousands years ago. Bio based economy is based on the concept of Biorefinery. Simple it is like a concept of ordinary refine system which convert crude oil into thousands of valuable products. In Biorefinery the input is biobased materials which contain cellulose, hemi-cellulose and lignin. Using various biorefinery systems we can convert biomass, cereals ... etc into methanol, ethanol, biodiesel, natural enzymes, biopolymers, and many other valuable products.

In our department lot of research works going on this bio-based industry with minimum gov. support. Now our department has come up with successful petrol-ethanol blend and biodisesel project. I suggest to government and other key players of this society to take benefits of this university projects.

People have to change the traditional view on university students. I do not know much about other students but our department is try to doing maximum on behalf of nation's sustainability.

Asking help from problem creators

These refugees looking foreword for helping teams. Most of time help come from developed countries . These innocent people do not know that the conflicts which lost their every thing was make by weapons made in those developed countries and the conflicts are also some marketing strategy for selling that weapons.

We are like frogs in luck warm water which is slowly heated by hidden agendas. Who will save our life.

Becoming Closer to Nature

I had good read on "Saru Bawa Weduma" a sinhala book from Dr. Priyanga de Soysa. The discussion in that book is quite strange and it is new approach toward secrets of success. There are many consultants those who guide people to success in money making, professionally, personality vise .... etc. But the approach in this book is very much different from the ordinary positive thinking.

In "Saru Bawa Weduma" [ increasing prosperity] Dr. Priyanga is saying that those who become closer to mother nature and identify the rhythm of it will become to success in life in every aspects. (Not only with money values) This is very important argument while ordinary people try to earn money at any cost. People will see quick success in money terms by becoming timber trader but will not see the sustainable success by becoming a protector of environment.

Note: If you do not know about successors those who win their life thro' contributing towards mother nature follow these links.

Dr. Wangari Muta Maathai
Albert Arnold "Al" Gore, Jr.

The book has written on a manner which can be understood by any person. I have read many books of Dr. Priyanga. In one of book one of our veteran journalist had claimed Dr. Priyanga as "Modern Rishi". He is a product of Sri Lanka medical college, but he further earn knowledge by following new paths of universe.

Recently Miss Earth 2007 was held and in final round those beautiful young ladies were asked a question to measure their intelligence and various answers were came up, but consider the answer of Miss Earth 2007: Jessica Nicole Trisko

Question : "How will you describe the beauty of Mother Nature to a blind child?"

Jessica : "Nature smells as sweet as the rose, soft as the softest leaves, to hear the singing of birds in the trees."

I think this answer illustrate the facts that Dr. Priyanga was try to prove from "Saru Bawa Weduma" [ increasing prosperity]. I do not think this as an answer which produce by-heart as like as we do in exams. I think this answer came out naturally. Because she had identified the truth of the mother nature.

I search the web to find out video of this great answering. I guess this will be a good video.

We lost another friend ...........

Tharana Mendis, one of Electrical Engineering student of our faculty passed away today evening. He was in Intensive Care Unit of Ragama General Hospital and was being treated for "severe state of the Dengue fever" (the medical term could not be found,). Another four students of the same department also got Dengue fever but now they have recovered. When this tragic news reached the university every students were spellbound. He was good friend of mine. Tharana is very down to earth person with a heart as gold. Every time he show me he came with his nice smile and say "Hi Sube". I feel very sorry for him. His father and mother passed away before he meet this tragic end and his one and only family member was his sister (a medical doctor). We lost a good friend and our mother land lost a good son and an Engineer-to-be with huge potential. All staff of Ragama hospital did there best to save this valuable life but at the end their mission were failed.

This is the second time our batch faces this type of tragedy. The first time was the death of our Piumal Brother due to severe oral cancer. This time dengue fever got our friend. Oral cancer is very dangerous disease which is hard to get recovered but dengue is also a deadly disease but can be eliminate with proper prevention method. The most practicable solutions are mosquito control and personal protection such as use of mosquito nets, repellents containing NNDB or DEET, covering exposed skin, use of DEET-impregnated bednets, and avoiding endemic areas.

Finally I bless him to be attain Nibbana. (a buddist blessing at the end of beloved person's end.)
